On Wednesday 16 May, Euro Foie Gras held its annual General Assembly in Brussels. This event was an opportunity for the representatives of the five producing countries (France, Belgium, Spain, Hungary, Bulgaria) to review the past year and the challenges ahead for the European foie gras sector.
The General Assembly was preceded by a visit to Filip Callemeyn's farm, a foie gras producer in Flanders. This was the opportunity for the latter to tell about his training in France to become a producer, to express his delight at his proximity with his customers and to explain the very strong demand especially during the end-of-year celebrations. The ducks enjoyed the sun in the open air while the group was visiting the facilities of the family farm. This one raises about 25'000 ducks a year. As in the other Belgian foie gras farms, the rearing, fattening and slaughtering phases take place on the farm. The products are mainly sold directly at the farm, restaurants and specialty shops. "The proximity and the quality of the products are very appreciated by the customers", explained Filip, proud of this traditional know-how.> Back to the frontpage
