Adopted on Wednesday, 3 October by the Walloon Parliament (Belgium), the Walloon Code of Animal Welfare includes a number of standards to protect domestic and livestock animals especially in the context of trade, transport and detention. It also provides for tougher penalties for abuse.
This new law recognizes the unhindered production of foie gras as a specialized livestock in Article 39.5. The code of animal welfare is thus a recognition for Walloon foie gras : a production respectful of the welfare of ducks, strictly regulated, controlled and conditioned by a demanding training of breeders.
In the wake of this legitimate recognition for a sector proud to offer consumers excellent local products, the Walloon foie gras will continue its growth initiated by the ambitious Walloon ten-year plan for poultry farming: a future full of promise for responsible men and women who love their profession.> Back to the frontpage
