Euro Foie Gras
KNOW-HOW AND TRADITION FOR AN EXCEPTIONNAL PRODUCT
Euro Foie Gras is the European Federation of Foie Gras Producers. Established in 2008 in Strasbourg, it brings together the federations of Belgian, Bulgarian, Spanish, French and Hungarian foie gras producers. Its objective is to defend the foie gras business. Its offers its members the possibility to engage in an ongoing exchange of experiences and know-how, while retaining their specificities
Euro Foie Gras produced on 27 June 2008 a Charter which reflects the determination of European foie gras producer countries to defend foie gras, a symbol of global cultural and gastronomic heritage.
The producer countries undertake to:
Promote foie gras, synonymous with age-old cultural and gastronomic traditions.
Comply with the rules based on each country’s tradition and which govern this specific animal rearing activity.
Defend fattening by “gavage”, which is based on the observation of a natural phenomenon of fat accumulation in the liver of migratory birds, in the absence of reliable alternatives. If performed by professionals under regulated conditions, this process does not cause any suffering to the animals.
Defend the current method of preparing foie gras and to comply with the ethics of their ancestral profession.
Defend their products throughout the world, in particular vis-à-vis European and international institutions.
Develop the means of improving knowledge of European and world markets and to monitor changes in European legislation.
Promote and enhance the consumption of foie gras throughout the world while respecting the quality which befits this exceptional dish.
